Co-ord Pays Tribute To BT's Dave Dixon

The sudden death of one of BT's Health and Safety managers has come as a shock to the NW BTU H&S Co-ord.

Announced 4th January by Dave Wallington Group Safety Adviser for BT, tributes have been made by the many who had worked closely with Dave Dixon.

Dave Wallington said, "It is with great sadness I am writing to inform you that Dave Dixon, Health and Safety Account Manager for BT Operate died due to a heart attack following an operation on 24th December 2010. I am sure you will all join me in sending our sincere condolences to his wife and family following this tragic and unexpected event."

The funeral was held on the 5th January in York.

The family have asked that no flowers or tributes be sent to the event but people should instead make a donation to the British Heart Foundation at http://www.bhf.org.uk/get-involved/donate.aspx as an alternative.

Derek Maylor, Chair of the NW BTU H&S Co-ord paid tribute to Dave Dixon.

Writing in his New Year message on the Unionsafety website, Derek said,

"The Co-ord were extremely saddened to hear of the Christmas Eve sudden death of one of the senior BT safety managers with whom we had built a good working relationship over the last few years.

Dave Dixon came into BT following careers with both the military and the police and we had r
eason to meet him very early on and continued to do so over his time at BT. He always worked as a partnership approach and made meetings less formal but still effective, and will take some replacing."

In a an email to all co-ord members announcing the sad news, Derek said " I am lost for words really."

Derek attended the funeral in York representing the Co-ord.
